Is there a works based false gospel in the 'Torah Movement'? - A follow up to the critics
Some said I addressed an issue that does not even exist! Today, we will look at whether there is a false gospel among some in the 'Torah Movement'

In a recent video I published titled Christianity Doesn't Know what to do with the Torah Movement, Many people are cautious and concerned about the Torah movement. In it I explored some of the tensions between believers who believe that Christians should keep the Torah and believers who believe that Christians shouldn't keep the Torah. I also spoke about issues both ends of the spectrum. But there's one thing that I mentioned that had some of the comments quite upset and I explored on the side of people who believe the Torah should be kept that some of them do have problems with a works based salvation doctrine. In response, someone commented this for example, I've heard countless videos warning Torah observers of the folly of a works based salvation, and I've yet to meet a single person or hear a video of someone who actually believes he or she can earn salvation through works. It seems to me that the argument is a straw man argument where people need to justify their own lawless behavior by attacking those who seriously consider James 2:26. Now first of all, of course I believe that the law should be kept. I do not believe in lawless behavior. I believe in observing the holy Sabbath that God has given us in the fourth commandment. I believe in the value of God's beautiful biblical feast days and so on and so on. And on the other hand, I understand many Christians falsely accuse some who desire to keep God's law for attempting to do so only to be justified by their own works, to be saved by the law, when that's not what they're trying to do. They're just trying to love God by obeying Him. But at the same time, I want to tell you that there are some who call themselves Torah keepers, Torah observant or whatever label, and who do justify themselves by their law keeping. And this doesn't usually occur by direct teaching of salvation by works from a teacher or so. But rather, I want to submit to you that the measure used to judge others quickly illuminates what someone really believes. Let me show you what I mean. Just a week ago this graphic was shared far and wide by Torah keepers and it reads, I quote, behaviorally there is nothing that distinguishes a Christian from an unbeliever. Christians eat pork, profane the Sabbath, and celebrate pagan holidays the same as unbelievers do. No evidence of being set apart or holy whatsoever. This graphic preaches a salvation by works of the law by three commandments. If someone keeps the Sabbath, eats the right food, and keeps the feasts, that's what qualifies them as a believer. And of course, if you Follow that through. Of course only true believers are saved. This is a false gospel. Ephesians 2:8 tells us, for by grace you have been saved through faith and this is not your own doing. It is a gift of God, not a result of work. So that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. We should obey God and we should manifest good works. But we should also recognize those works do nothing to save us in of themselves. We're saved by grace, by Jesus dying on the cross for us. And we must be willing to harshly come against false gospels in our midst, otherwise we tolerate it and we will be lumped in with it. And that's why I called it out in that video. And so as you can see by evidence of just this one graphic being shared far and wide, this issue does very well exist and it exists most prevalently when we look at how people judge Christians. The issues of sabbath, diet and feast are complex topics because of the many years of lies and tradition that has been passed down that we have all inherited. And does the Torah its not teach that there is a difference between intentional and unintentional sin in Leviticus 4? I mean think about it this way. If you watching this, think, well I've discovered a revelation, I've discovered a law that God has set apart for me to keep or whatever. Has God not had great mercy on your journey there? And has he not saved you even while you were on that journey before being ignorant and still learning of the things you may well know today? And could it be that you're still ignorant of other things? And this is what really confuses me when I look at all of the incredible hatred that some people, some who keep the Torah have towards fellow Christians. Because Matthew 7:2 Yeshua told us for with the judgment that you pronounce you will be judged and with the measure that you used, it will be measured back to you. And yet when I look at the Torah movement, there are some real issues amongst those who say they keep it. Many, many, many men in the movement struggle with pornography, that's adultery of the heart. Among other circles, evangelism to unbelievers has become almost non existent. And among some other circles there's a lack of charity. Among other circles there's pride issues or lacking love for neighbor. Some others have quenched the Holy Spirit, having no gifts of the Spirit and not earnestly desiring it as commanded. And some others have this reliance on this works based Salvation that we just read about. Do I say these things as judgment? Not at all, but only to illuminate the need for humility that we should have to clean our own house first. This is the season of Passover after all, and unleavened bread after all. Why does it help that we get rid of leaven physically, but yet our homes, our temples, are still full of Leaven, the pride that boasts against others. And now look, I truly hope that it is simply a loud Internet minority that seems to give people who keep Torah all the bad press. Because truly, on the ground, when I have traveled, and I have traveled a lot, I have met thousands of people who keep the Torah. And yet at the same time I have seen the most humble, loving and gospel centric people as well. But that does not mean that we shouldn't address if there is something in our midst that is not of God's gospel. And if we don't call it out, will we not be associated therewith? Another thing people have said is, am I battling against this movement? And again, I want to remind you I've served people in this movement extensively, but I also cannot stand back and act as if everything is okay when there are people who are sick and in need of an ambulance. Some Torah keepers are on thin ice due to the pride and the issue of boasting against others. And is this not what Paul warned us about in Romans 11? But if some of the branches were broken off and you, though a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among others, and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree, do not be arrogant towards the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. Then you will say, branches were broken off so that I may be grafted in. This is true, they were broken off because of their unbelief. But you stand fast through faith, so do not become proud, but fear. For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither would will he spare you. If we have been given a revelation, if we have been grafted into the olive tree, we should be careful to not boast. God doesn't need us. It's a privilege. It's not about us and what we think we have. It's about Yeshua who gives all revelation and all that is good and true, and who can raise up a people to replace us from these stones. Do not let him pass you by the way that he passed by the law keepers of the first century. Rather, be humble, be gracious towards others, always patient, being eager to obey him in spirit and truth, to love him and to love your neighbor. Do this and you will do well. And I hope that we can take accountability and ownership over the things that are wrong. It's so easy for people to look at other camps, other people, other Christians, and what are they doing wrong? God forbid we look inwardly as to all of the junk that's in our own midst, for if we do not clean that up, it will contaminate all of us.
Episode Notes
Recently, I released a video "Christianity doesn't know what to do with the Torah Movement", wherein I addressed a tension between believers. But some said I also addressed an issue that does not even exist! Today, we will look at whether there is a false gospel among some in the 'Torah Movement', and if so, why it is imperative to address it as the Body of Christ.
